Morning update - Broken cloud then sunny spells today, hot and sunny tomorrow

TODAY

A generally fine day across the island, with areas of cloud this morning. However, some good sunny spells will develop as the day goes on. During the afternoon, there is an increasing risk of mist and fog patches developing along western, southern and eastern coasts, and in some places these could well stay with us into the evening.

Temperature: 25–26°C across many central, northern and eastern parts. 22–24°C in most other areas, although perhaps somewhat cooler along western, southern and eastern coasts, especially this afternoon as the risk of sea fog increases. Here, temperatures will be closer to 20–22°C.

Wind: West-southwesterly to southwesterly 3–7 mph this morning, increasing to 8–15 mph during the afternoon, while gradually becoming more southerly. Along eastern coasts, winds may become south to southeasterly as sea breezes develop.

TONIGHT

A fine and dry night across the island. However, coastal mist along western and southern coasts, and perhaps eastern coasts, may still be hanging around for a time. Later in the night this should gradually fade, although there will still be the risk of some mist and fog patches developing inland.

Temperature: 18–19°C in the built-up towns and along windward coasts. 15–17°C in many other areas. However, a few rural low-lying spots, especially across central and western parts of the island, could fall to 12–13°C, although this will be very localised.

Wind: South to southwesterly 5–11 mph at first, becoming variable later in the night at around 2–5 mph.

TOMORROW

Any early mist and fog patches will quickly fade away, leaving a hot and sunny day across the island. Temperatures will vary quite a bit depending on the wind direction. During the morning, with winds coming in from the southeast, the highest temperatures are likely across central, northwestern and northern parts of the island. However, during the afternoon the wind will turn into the southwest, bringing noticeably cooler conditions, especially across western and southern parts. Even so, it will remain warm across much of the island.

Temperature: 28–30°C across central, northwestern and northern parts during the morning. During the afternoon, temperatures easing back to around 25–27°C across many central, northern and eastern areas, while western and southern parts become significantly cooler at around 21–22°C.

Wind: Variable at first, with onshore sea breezes developing for a time. Becoming southwesterly around midday, then west-southwesterly by mid-afternoon, increasing to 14–26 mph across many parts.
