Morning update - Odd shower today, wintry showers tomorrow
TODAY
A chilly day with sunny spells and occasional areas of broken cloud, perhaps just about thick enough for the odd light shower of rain, hail or sleet. Temperature 4-5°C but the odd spot could see 6°C Wind northwest 11-20mph becoming 4-9mph later
Rainfall 0-1mm with localised rainfall possible
TONIGHT
A cold, clear start which will lead to another slight frost as temperatures get close to around freezing in some parts, although the temperatures will gradually rise after midnight as we begin to see some high cloud pushing in from the west, acting much like an insulating blanket and lifting the temperatures slowly. Towards dawn we will see an increasing risk of a few wintry showers moving in off the channel. Temperature 0-1°C but a few rural parts down to -1°C, then rising closer to 2-3°C later
Wind north-northwest 3-6mph becoming variable 0-3mph for a time before turning east 4-8mph later Rainfall 0-1mm with localised rainfall possible
TOMORROW
A cloudy start with showers, locally heavy and these will turn to sleet and snow over high ground and in more central and western parts, but falling as rain in the south and east.
The showers will gradually clear away by late afternoon, although there is a small chance of a slight dusting of snow over the highest hills before they do so. Temperature 3-5°C but as high as 5-6°C in the far east and south but then falling by a degree or two as the afternoon goes on
Wind east-northeast 4-9mph becoming north 6-12mph during the afternoon
Rainfall 0-3mm with localised rainfall possible, falling as sleet or snow over high ground with minimal accumulations here
