Snow and freezing rain risk in the west, snow then rain later in the east

General report and summary

Last night saw temperatures hovering between -5'c and -3'c generally across the island with continuous light snow throughout the early hours and this gave up to 1cm worth of falling snow in some places even though most of the snow blew away on contact with the ground as well as evaporating too which has left most places with just a light dusting. Any snow today is likely to do the same with strong winds as well as evaporation of the snow reducing any accumulations on the ground. Today

A bitterly cold day with light snow and snizzle (frozen drizzle) at times although during the afternoon some heavier snow is likely with a few cm worth possible although the main bulk of the heaviest snow is likely to stay just west of the island.

Temperature -2'c to 0'c in most parts but as high as 1'c in the east and south later

Wind ENE 35-40mph becoming 45-52mph later with 60mph gusts

Snowfall 0.3-1.5cm

Tonight

Snow likely at first with a few cm likely to fall in some places although in more eastern and southern parts we may see the snow turn to sleet or perhaps even rain. Further west it is likely to stay as snow although there is a risk of freezing rain here.

Temperature 1'c to 3'c in the south and east, -1'c to 1'c in other places

Wind ENE 46-55mph with 60 mph gusts possible

Rainfall 2-3mm (2-3cm falling as snow in places)

Tomorrow

Still feeling very cold with a mixture of rain, sleet and snow across the island. The east and south is likely to see sleet or rain whilst central and western parts may well see snow or freezing rain at first but likely to turn to snow for a time in the west before becoming wet and turning more to sleet/drizzle later.

Temperature -1'c to 1'c at first in the west with 1'c to 3'c in the east and south although during the afternoon/evening rising to 1'c to 3'c in the west with 3'c to 5'c in the east and south

Wind E 40-45mph becoming SE 12-18mph
