Morning update - Occasional sun and scattered showers becoming frequent later, cloud and sun tomorrow

TODAY

Today we'll see a fair amount of cloud around, perhaps with the odd sunny spell here and there from time to time, but also a scattering of showers moving in off the English Channel. Some of these are likely to be heavy, although for a time during this afternoon they should clear away. As we move in towards the evening, the showers are likely to increase in intensity and frequency, with the risk of them turning thundery too.

Wind: southwest 14–26 mph, becoming 19–35 mph later in the day

TONIGHT

Heavy and possibly thundery showers at first, easing later in the night as the wind changes more into the west.

Temperature: 16–18°C, perhaps as low as 15°C in northern and eastern parts, warmer still on windward coasts

Wind: southwest 18–37 mph, becoming west later in the night and easing to 17–32 mph

Rainfall: 2–12 mm, with highly localised variations

TOMORROW

Tomorrow will start off fairly bright, with some broken cloud around. As the day goes on, the cloud will gradually increase, with the risk of the odd light shower, although most places will miss these. Later in the day, we'll see increasing amounts of high, thin cloud moving in from the west, making any remaining sunshine very hazy.

Temperature: 19–21°C, coolest in the south and southwest, warmest in central northern parts

Wind: west or west-northwest 18–32 mph

Rainfall: 0–1 mm, with localized rainfall possible
