Morning update - Rain then showers but brighter later today with gales, bright but heavy showers later tomorrow

TODAY

Rain this morning, heavy at times, clearing to more showery conditions by late morning and into the afternoon. The winds will become increasingly gusty this afternoon, with gales developing in many parts. By mid-afternoon the heaviest of the showers will have cleared away, although the odd shower will continue to run in off the Channel until this evening.

Temperature: 18–20°C

Wind: south 15–25 mph, becoming south-southwest 19–35 mph by midday, then turning southwest and slowly veering west-southwest through the afternoon. Winds increasing to 28–45 mph by early afternoon, then 29–55 mph for a time in some spots by mid-afternoon

Rainfall: 5–8 mm

TONIGHT

A few showers to start the evening, but it will become dry with clear spells developing.

Temperature: 16–17°C inland, closer to 19°C around windward coasts

Wind: west to southwest 24–48 mph at first, becoming west 12–22 mph later in the night, before turning more west-southwest by dawn

Rainfall: 0–2 mm

TOMORROW

A bright start with just the odd shower, and it will stay much like this through the day. Later on, showers will develop through the English Channel and move across us, especially towards late afternoon and into the evening. Some of these are likely to be very heavy, with the risk of thunder.

Temperature: 19–21°C

Wind: west-southwest 10–17 mph, becoming southwest 16–29 mph later

Rainfall: 0–6 mm, highly localized and variable depending on location
