Morning update - Showers developing today, mostly fine with broken cloud and sunny spells tomorrow

TODAY

A fine start to the day with good sunny spells. However, cloud will soon bubble up as we see some showers developing by late morning or early afternoon, locally becoming heavy as the afternoon goes on, with a few torrential downpours here and there.

Temperature: 19–21°C, although closer to 15–16°C under any showers

Wind: North or north-northeast at times, 9–15 mph, although turning a little more onshore towards the south and southeast of the Island, where a slight sea breeze will develop for a time during the afternoon

Rainfall: Highly variable from location to location, with some spots seeing very little at 0–1 mm, while other areas could see as much as 5–8 mm, as is the nature of showers

TONIGHT

The first part of the evening will see further showers moving down from the north, and these could actually become more intense as they reach the coast and move out over the English Channel. A few may potentially turn thundery for a time, perhaps giving the odd flash of lightning out over the sea. As the night goes on, though, the showers will clear away, leaving mostly clear skies and turning quite chilly, or even rather cold in a few of the more sheltered spots by morning.

Temperature: 10–12°C, but as low as 8–9°C in some sheltered rural parts and closer to 13–14°C on windward coasts

Wind: North to northwest 5–11 mph at first, becoming north to northeast later at 7–14 mph, and ending the night northerly at 7–14 mph

Rainfall: Again it will be hit and miss, with a few spots seeing nothing at all, while other locations could see perhaps 3–5 mm during the first part of the evening

TOMORROW

Tomorrow looks set to start bright and sunny, although there may be a few patches of mist lurking around some of the more rural spots at first. Much like the last few days, cloud will then start bubbling up by mid to late morning, leaving us with a mixture of sunny spells and occasional cloud through the afternoon. There is the outside chance of a very light shower popping up somewhere, but most places won’t even see that and will stay completely dry. So, after a sunny start, expect a somewhat cloudier middle part of the day before settling into a fairly pleasant mixture of cloud and sunshine during the afternoon.

Temperature: 20–22°C, perhaps as high as 23°C in northern and northeastern parts

Wind: Northerly 9–15 mph to start the day, becoming a little more north to northeast before winds gradually turn into the southwest as a sea breeze develops off the English Channel. This will begin across more western parts during the early afternoon and spread across the Island, turning more southerly for a time before becoming southwesterly across the whole Island by the end of the day

Rainfall: 0–1 mm, with most places staying completely dry
